NUJ officials and FoCs have been working hard behind the scenes this week on proposals to restructure editorial areas across Newsquest Scotland. There will be job losses attached to the changes but there is a real commitment to putting structures in place that will be robust enough to tackle some of the problems that accompany falling levels of staff. A number of volunteers have come forward so far but not enough to meet the company savings target. More talks will take place on Monday in Glasgow HQ, while consultation on the proposals for the weekly titles will move to Fife.
At the same time the company are holding discussions between the daily and weekly editors over shared material for the digital site and the union will be having an input into how that pans out.
