Union members at Pacific Quay are in celebration mode as the long simmering conflict over job cuts has been finally sorted through a re-deployment agreement involving chapel officers and local management. A number of NUJ members have been at risk of redundancy for over three years after being selected as part of the notoriously named Delivering Quality First project. At different times in that period those affected were facing the door until last minute talks came up with temporary solutions in the form of short term contracts. At least one individual was sent a P45 on three occasions, however following a national accord, the BBC Scotland situation has now been put to rest with this re-deployment bringing massive relief for the members at risk.
The timing of the deal will now allow the new head of News and Current Affairs to start in his new post with a clean slate and without the threat of industrial action in the background.
