Consultation on proposed restructuring and redundancies is in full flow from Ardrossan to Clydebank to Dunfermline with Romanes Group management. A number of jobs are at risk including senior editorial and photographer posts although some other new opportunities are being created which may allow for re-deployment. The weekly newspaper group acquired in the last year by Newsquest have successfully grown their business into a profitable company, but they now face having to buy into the Newsquest strategy of cutting to enhance profits. Following a meeting of FoCs the NUJ members in the group chapel are not happy at the threat of compulsory redundancies and are prepared to take a stance on that issue. Further talks are planned for Wednesday and also next week.
