Hopes for a civilised negotiation over the latest Newsquest “savings” have been dealt a serious blow with management refusing to improve redundancy terms. The paltry offer of statutory calculations has led to a minimal response to the call for voluntary redundancies, as the new management team have been told by London there is no movement in company policy.
The hundred strong chapel had already voted to ballot for industrial action if it appeared that compulsory dismissals were likely. Only one person voted against the motion.
Further informal talks have taken place but a formal meeting is planned for Thursday afternoon and it may be that the union will issue notice to ballot then.
