NUJ Members Refuse To Sign Away Terms & Conditions
The bully boy approach to industrial relations isn’t something we take lightly in Scotland but some employers don’t seem to understand that message. Newsquest owners of The Herald titles and newly acquired Clyde & Forth Press are demanding journalists sign new contracts with worse terms and conditions or face dismissal.
The move to cut pensions and sick pay while extending the working week has gone down like a lead balloon in affected editorial newsrooms in Greenock, Dunfermline, Alloa, Clydebank and Ardrossan. NUJ members will now ballot for industrial action while many staff are refusing to sign away their hard won terms and conditions. Union officials are hoping to meet senior management this week in a last ditch attempt to avoid strike and work to rule action.
